Summary Note

The publication-dates are given on the title-pages as 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833.

Ticozzi's entries are very much from a Neoclassical perspective. For example, in Volume II he concludes his entry on the Baroque architect Guarino Guarini (1624-83) with the words, 'Morì per vantaggio dell'arte nel 1683.'

The first appendix adds dictionary-entries. The second consists of essays on architecture, painting and sculpture by F. Algarotti, L. Alberti.

The first group of plates in Volume IV (nos. 1-7) shows artists' monograms; the second, (nos. 1-2) shows figures of a male body and head.

Provenance

With the front free-endpapers in both volumes inscribed in ink, 'William Yeames Roma Dec. 1842.' This copy was presented to the RA Library in 1900 by his son, William Frederick Yeames, R.A. (see RA Annual Report for 1900, p. 40).
