General Note
This work was published as seven volumes in four portfolios divided as vol. I, vol. II with III, vol. IV with V, and vol. VI with VII. Portfolio 1 contained 8 pages of letterpress (the first being the general title-page), followed by 31 plates; portfolio 2 included pages 9-12 of the text with 21 plates; portfolio 3 included pages 13-16 of the text with 23 plates; and portfolio 4 included pages 17-[22] with 23 plates. Page [22] of the text has an index of the plates by Dürer and Wolgemut arranged by geographical location; at the bottom of the page is the printer statement, Buch und Kunstdruckerei von Dr. M. Huttler (Konrad Fischer), München. The plates are photographic reproductions by Friedrich Bruckmann.
