This work appeared in 12 parts housed in portfolios and published between 1882 and 1891. Each portfolio contains 25 collotype plates; the title, publication details and list of plates was printed on the front cover of each portfolio. Only the final part (part XII) contained any text (vii, 86 p.), which comprises a forward, an index to the cities covered by the plates within the entire 12-part set and the pages on which the architecture in the cities listed is discussed in the following text.
