The plates are captioned in French and English. Most are signed by Thénot and lithographed by `Thierry Frères, successor to Engelmann & Sons'. A few are dated 1834 or 1835. (The title page carries the date 1834).


Inscribed in pencil on the front free endpaper: “My first copy book. Given to me when I was about 7 years old – by Dr. Elvyn of 36 York Terrace, Regents Parks. G.A.S.” (i.e. G.A. Storey RA). It is also signed twice in pencil by G. A. Storey. Presented to the library by Piers Rodgers, January 1981
