Summary Note
The Grote collection presented to the University in 1871 numbers about 5,000 volumes, consisting mainly of Greek and Latin classics and books on history. The De Morgan library of 4,000 volumes, chiefly mathematics and astronomy, was purchased by Lord Overstone and given to the University in 1871.
