Summary Note
Drawing on ancient writers, the works of A. Felibien, Roger de Piles and others, Le Comte's Cabinet was intended to be a complete history of art. Its most original sections are its catalogues of the engravers Jean Marot, Robert Nanteuil, Claude Mellan, Antonio Tempesta, Jacques Callot and Stefano della Bella - it was the earliest published manual for the print collector.
The two plates in Volume II show printers' monograms.
Provenance
Recorded in RAA Library, Catalogue, 1802.
