Summary Note

This work was the third resulting from Piranesi's visit to Lake Albano in 1758 or 1759. On his return to Rome, after completing his Delle magnificenza ed architettura de' Romani (1761) he published the Descrizione e disegno dell'emissario del Lago Albano (1762) and Di due spelonche ornate dagli antichi alla riva del Lago Albano (1762), and began to compile the present series of etchings. The three works are often found together.

The plates include both views and technical illustrations of ancient Roman engineering.
