The frontispiece shows a bust inscribed 'Christie'. This work was posthumously published by one of Christie's sons, in a run of fifty copies for private circulation. It had been written to serve as an introduction to the second volume of the Society of Dilettanti's Specimens of Ancient Sculpture; but in the event that volume appeared in 1835 with an introduction by another hand. |
