Summary Note

The publication-date of 1849 is given on the title page. One plate carries the date of 1825. In 1826 had been published in two volumes Picturesque Views of the Southern Coast of England from Drawings made principally by J.M.W. Turner, and engraved by W.B. Cooke, George Cooke, and other eminent engravers.

M. Holloway states that, though most prints were engraved on copper, nine may be engraved on steel.

Provenance

The verso of the front loose endpaper is inscribed in pencil, 'S.A:H', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81.

19th-century half black morocco, marbled-papered boards; gilt-decorated spine lettered 'Southern Coast Of England Turner'.
