Summary Note

This is a Latin translation of the first two books of Albrecht Dürer's Hierinn sind begriffen vier Bücher von menschlicher Proportion (1528). The Latin translation of the third and fourth books was published in 1534 (Clariss. Pictoris et Geometrae Alberti Dureri/ de varietate figurarum et flexuris partium ac gestib. imaginum /libri duo /qui priorib. de symmetria quondam editis /nunc primum in latinum conversi accesserunt. Anno M.D.XXXiiii.).

In these two books Dürer discusses methods of measuring and representing human proportion.

Many illustrations are full-page. The book also carries Dürer's monogram on the title page.

Binding Note

16th-century sheep; rebacked in 18th century, rebacked in 20th century retaining earlier gilt-decorated spine-piece lettered 'Nor', red morocco spine-label lettered 'Durer De Symmetria Partium'. Bound with one other.
