Summary Note

The publication-date of 1781 is given on the title-page; plates 1 and 2 carry the date of 1780.

Each page of text is surrounded by a hand-drawn blue border. The account of the hurricane is preceded by a note which includes a short bibliography and a statement that 'The Account that follows was read at the Royal Society, May the 31st, 1781'.

The four plates show fallen trees and a fallen mill. They and their surrounding borders have been coloured by hand.

A related drawing, showing an overturned windmill on Barnes Common, may be seen at the Courtauld Institute, London.

Although not a full Academician, Edwards was employed in the Academy as a teacher of perspective from 1788 to 1806.
