Summary Note
The publication-date of 1842 given on the title page is that of Part 10. The plates carry publication-dates of 1840 (pts. I-III), 1841 (pts, IV, V, 6-9), 1842 (pts. 11, 12), 1843 (pt. 13), 1844 (pts. 14, 15) and 1846 (pt. 16). The Royal Academy's set has bound in fifteen upper wrappers, of which the first five carry printed numbers I - V and printed dates of July, September and November 1840 and January and March 1841, and the remainder carry inscribed numbers 6-9, 11-16 and inscribed dates May, July, September and December 1841, June and November 1842, July 1843, March 1844, January 1845 and November 1846 (this last inscription being on a sheet which carries the printed date of December 1844 on its verso). There is also bound in one lower wrapper, which calls for 16 parts, each having four prints - apart from Part 10, which 'Consists of Text, with Engravings on copper and wood'.
Several plates are partly hand-coloured.
The text and plates are followed by a one-leaf advertisement for 'Richardson's Metallic · Rubber · for Monumental Brasses' (no date, but quoting testimonies of 1844).
