General Note

The work is illustrated by 50 plates drawn by the author. A printed slip was pasted into the work preceding the List of Plates stating, 'The Drawings of this Work have been printed at Mr. Appel's Anastatic Press, 43, Gerrard Street.' The printer statement for the letterpress appears on the verso of the title-page, 'London: / Gilbert and Rivington, Printers, / St. John's Square.'

Binding Note

Bound in blue publishers' binding with blind-stamped decoration and, in the centre of the front board, a figure of a private of infantry in proposed dress with legend in banner above his head, 'Publica Salus Mea Merces', the figure and the banner in gold. The spine in lettered in gilt, 'A History Of The / Dress / Of The / British / Soldier' and ' By / Lieut. Colonel / J. Luard'.
