Summary Note
Pilkington's biographic dictionary had been first published in 1770 as The Gentleman's and Connoisseur's Dictionary of Painters. It is retitled A Dictionary of Painters in Fuseli's editions (1805 and 1810); and A General Dictionary of Painters in editions after 1824.
As the title claims, Fuseli's 'Alterations' and 'Additions' are 'Considerable'. They include hostile comments on Dürer and his circle, and biographies of Fuseli's father and brothers.
