Falkener presents these translations as a supplement to the Museum of Classical Antiquities, a periodical which he edited from 1851 to 1853.

Student' (this probably refers to Falkener's winning the Royal Academy's gold medal in 1839). A signed autograph letter from Edward Falkener to T. Uwins Esquire RA Librarian, carrying the date of 8 Nov [?] 1854, is tipped in, requesting the Royal Academy's acceptance of his essay. The verso of the front loose endpaper is inscribed in pencil, 'HWP', i.e. H.W. Pickersgill, R.A., librarian of the Royal Academy 1856-64.
