The catalogue lists many works by J.M.W. Turner, Fawkes's friend, and some by Robson, Smith, Atkinson, Varley, Hills, Dewint, Glover, Prout, Gilpin, J. Ibbetson, Garrard, E. Swinburne, Heaphy, Nicholson, Fielding, Cristal, Cox. Most of these paintings are landscapes.

The frontispiece is captioned and shows 'Mr. Fawkes's Gallery'. The plate shows a mountain stream with a list of British water-colour painters.
