A catalogue of the sale from Benjamin Robert Haydon's effects in August 1846. At the bottom of the last page of the catalogue is the notice of the printer, Steam-press of W. H. Cox, 5 Great Queen-street.'

Provenance

Inscribed in pencil 'J. H. Smith - 1846' at the top of the title-page and with his manuscript notes in ink on the prices achieved throughout the catalogue of 346 items. Also on the interior of the back cover are his manuscript notes on five particular paintings.
Bequeathed by Gilbert Bakewell Stretton, 1949.

Binding Note

The catalogue is bound in a marbled paper cover with a printed label on the front cover, 'A Catalogue / of the / Valuable Effects / of the late / B. R. Haydon, Esq., Historical Painter, / which will be sold by auction, / On Wednesday, the 5th day of August, and Following Day, / 1846 [in ink.] / At Twelve O'clock.' Also bound with the catalogue is an invitation card for a private view of the effects printed for the auctioneer with J. H. Smith Esq. written on it.
