Summary Note

Gersaint's catalogue had first been published posthumously, with augmentations by Helle and Glomy, in 1751.

The text lists and describes the etchings and their different states. It includes 419 items, including 'Doubtful Pieces' and 'Pieces Etched After Rembrandt , By Different Masters' (nos. 343-419).

The frontispiece is captioned and shows a self-portrait of Rembrandt.

An electronic reproduction was published in 2003 (Farmington Hills, Mich.: Thomson Gale). A microfilm version was published in 1986 (Woodbridge CT: Research Publications).

Provenance

The front loose endpaper is inscribed in ink, 'Bequest of Sr. Augustus W. Callcott.'
