Content Description

Attempts a comparison of modern and ancient Rome, the campagna is now a barren waste. The shepherds wear the skin of goats and live off herbs such as Dandelion.

13 March, Naples - He left Rome in a hurry on the 9th. He travelled in the Vettura, a type of stage coach. His companions are French, including a Captain who was an intimate of Byron in Greece. Provides a simple account of the journey to Naples. Describes Naples and the surrounding vista, Vesuvius is active, the museum is the only thing worth doing in the city. Describes some of the things to be found in the Museum, has also visited Virgil's tomb and carried a piece away.
