Content Description

Thanks for Humphry's letter about Mrs. Preston, whose conduct during the illness of Lady Charlotte would induce him to employ her, if he had needed more women in his house. He has just returned from Cornwall and his old complaint has reappeared. The death of his wife has affected him greatly and he would be interested to hear of life in London as his feelings for Exeter are much diminished. In the spring he visited Northumberland and thinks the landscape around Edinburgh equal to that of Turin or Geneva, he is painting a landscape of it, which he will show Humphry. He has a fine house in the new Crescent and his boy is fine health, as "lusty as Sir Joshua's infant Hercules". Mr. White has recovered from his accident and the broken arm resulting. Downman has been but is now back in London. He hopes the peace will revive the arts.
