Content Description

Describes how he and Clara spend their days. A niece of Costa lends them her carriage whenever they want it. Costa has lost most of his money in the late affair, Richmond will send many of his pictures to Leighton to try and sell them. He and Clara have instituted a weekly choral evening, but he does not involve himself in politics, beyond listening to the old red republicans Giangolini and Narducci. He increasingly despises those who run the catholic church. Odo Russell is engaged to Lady Emily Villiers.

There is much going on in art, although the English do nothing, as usual. He sees many Spanish artists who are first rate, as is the head of the French Academy in Rome, Mons. Hébert. Mr. Severn is now much better.
