Content Description

He will pass straight through Florence on the way to Rome. He travelled through France first class with a miscellaneous group of foreigners who provided good company. Describes the Diligence and the "Entre Nous" sled needed to get over the alps until they arrived at Turin, which was dirty and horrible. He took the train to Florence and has been to the cathedral and Santa Maria Novello "where the glorious frescoes are".

The letter continues in Rome. He feels the weight of responsibility on his shoulders in the light of his election to the post[?] and hopes his work will be worthy. Mr. Moore has helped him find lodgings. His hotel is just off the Via Bocca Leone, his studio is on the Pincian Hill in "a grand palazzo". He has visited Mr. Severn who looked old and worn, but in good health. Rome is a lively and supportive place for artists.
