The tour was delightful, Venice the highlight. He spent a lot of time with the Greaves family in Venice, rather falling for Miss "Georgy" Greaves. She stands to received £300 a year. She is very clever, rather older than him, when he left Venice they parted with a kind of understanding. He does not want this blurted all over Yarmouth.

At Milan he met a nice soldier fellow, Captain Smith, a cousin of Dr. Hills. J.J. has made everyone laugh with his odd look and manners. A German drew a profile of him in the sand at a concert in Brussell's for the amusement of his friends.
