Content Description

He went to see an animal show for his birthday and dined with the Gladstone's. He has recovered from an attack of fever, but his leg is still bad and he would like Leigh Hunt's translation of the Idylls of Theocritus.. He is pleased that [George Richmond] has begun work on The Burial of the Virgin and fails to resist the urge to advise his father. He asks them to cover his Artists Club subscription.

He discusses his limited use of colour and various pigments in particular and has grown to love Rome, believing that an artist must visit it very regularly.
