ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS
VISITOR'S REPORT
Painting SCHOOL

THE VISITOR for the time being is MASTER of the SCHOOL. His duty is to
set the Models, to examine and correct the performances of the Students, to give
them Advice and Instruction, and to maintain due Order and Discipline.

NAME OF VISITOR Philip Connard Esq., A.R.A.
PERIOD OF DUTY From March 3 to March 29, 1919

SUGGESTIONS AND REMARKS

Instruction
I would suggest that more time be given to
drawing. Some of the students seem to lack
constructive knowledge.
Besides the Holbein drawings now hanging in the
life room there might be added reproductions from
the drawings of Michael Angelo, Raphael
Ruebens, Van dyke, Leonardo, Ingres, Fragonard
Claude, Watteau & Gainsborough
I would also suggest (if it is possible)
that on or two paintings from the Gibson
Gallery should hang on the walls of the
life rooms particularly some of the
excellent life studies by Etty.
