VISITOR’S REPORT.
Drawing SCHOOL.

THE VISITOR for the time being is MASTER of the SCHOOL. His duty is to
set the Models, to examine and correct the performances of the Students, to give
them Advice and Instruction, and to maintain due Order and Discipline.

NAME OF VISITOR John S. Sargent Esq. R.A
PERIOD OF DUTY From Oct 28th To Nov. 23d 1907

SUGGESTIONS AND REMARKS.
Instruction
Satisfactory
I have already called attention to
the very small attendance at the evening
school during the autumn months,
the excuse given being that students are
working at the Gold medal. This does
not seem to us a reason for being away
between 5 & 7 o’clock

General
Some change seems advisable to the lighting
of two of the life schools_ firstly the arrangement of
the lamps for lighting the model in the men’s
life school_ It now consists of a level row of 8
lights about 8 inches apart, each of which throws
a distinct shadow _ I suggest that they should
be grouped in a mass closer together.
Secondly. In the smaller life school for women,
the row of lamps round the room is so low that
it almost touches the drawings that are on easels,
throwing them into a dazzling light, whereas the
model looks comparatively with shade _ I found
this not only very trying to the eyes, but also
of great disadvantage for study _ it also tends
to making very black drawings_
