Pasted to the face is a newspaper cutting about Sir Joshua Reynolds commencing a portrait of Lord Heathfield.

On the reverse is part of a critique of the 1787 Academy exhibition, source unstated, with an annotation on the review of Mrs Damer's "what trash of puffery". Other artists noted are [Benjamin] West, [Paul] Sandby and William Hodges.
