He complains that his refusal to dine or attend gatherings leaves him depressed in Winter; he complains of his reticence in revealing deepest feelings; he is glad for news of Hester Chawner and that they are getting on vigorously in Hastings, he extemporises over the sublime impact of gales on such places; the news from Charing has improved, although their friend is disappointed with Maria, he is worried about their friend's teeth, as he feels decay should not touch her; he claims he will strenuously seek to retain his own health.
