Sir Edward Poynter], to wear his badge and chain of office during a recent visit by
the King was indeed due to inadvertence, for which Eaton himself took the blame, perhaps due in part to the fact that Eaton recalled that in the course of three visits by
Queen Victoria, the then Presidents had not worn their insignia either.
