He provides an account of the opening of the new Covent Garden Theatre; he went with the Wolffs; Robert Smirke also had box, with his family and the Daniells; he provides a sketch of the entrance interior and a detailed description of the stage setting, designed by Robert Smirke, executed by Richard Smirke and Robert Smirke the elder, Lawrence prevailed on Kemble to alter it; he then describes circumstances leading to the first OP riot; the crowd railed against Kemble, Harris and Catalani; tonight they play the Beggars Opera, Mrs. Siddons will not be insulted so in her last season.
