Content Description

He summarises the findings of the enquiry into the [Sintra] convention, general opinion exonerates Sir A. Wellesley and Sir Hugh D. and lies against Sir Harry Burrard; he mentions that Farington has misgivings about Westmacott, but says his monument to Sir Ralph Abercrombie is surprisingly good; he suggests Flaxman bas-relief is better; he went to see the monument a second time with West; Robert Smirke's design for the front of Covent Garden Theatre is simple, pure and grand, George Dance will be chagrined, as will other architects for other motives.
