Content Description

The volume includes a letter from the President, Sir John Everett Millais, requesting Queen Victoria's permission to suspend the annual dinner that year, 3 March 1896; a letter from Fleetwood J. Edwards, Osborne House, to the President, Sir Edward Poynter, conveying the Queen's approval for the proposed uses of the Leighton Bequest, 4 February 1899, as agreed in the General Assembly of 5 December 1898; a letter from Fleetwood J. Edwards, Windsor Castle, to the President, Sir Edward Poynter, confirming the Queen's approval for resolutions passed at the General Assembly of 5 December 1899, relating to pensions and the membership, 21 March 1900; a letter from King Edward VII, Sandringham, Norfolk, to the President, Sir Edward Poynter, thanking the members of the Royal Academy for their address of condolences on the death of Queen Victoria, and expressing his own "deepest interest in the prosperity of . . . perhaps the foremost Academy of Arts in the world", 19 April 1900; and a letter from King George V, Marlborough House, London, to the President, Sir Edward Poynter, and the members of the Royal Academy, expressing his thanks for their address of condolences on the death of King Edward VII, and hoping that the Royal Academy would "continue to flourish and to exercise its powerful influence in the encouragement of Art", while he undertook to do "all in my power to preserve to the Royal Academy the protection and privileges which it has enjoyed under my predecessors", 6 August 1910.
