Content Description

Newspaper cuttings and pamplets, pasted neatly in volumes and concerned, almost to the exclusion of all else, with the Royal Academy in general and it's exhibitions in particular.

Acquisition Details

Purchased in 1990 for £500 from Ivy Earl Smith, 2 Walliscote, St. Luke's Park, Torquay, Devon.

Physical Characteristics

The volumes were extensively conserved in 2007. The bindings were of a poor quality 19th century construction. On inspection it transpired that the gatherings had not been sewn together, merely glued together with a leather 'spine' stuck over the top.

Bookends Bindery retained as much of the original marbling as was possible and laid it over new conservation grade boards, half leather with a hollow-back spine. The spine is tooled in the same manner as the original. The conservation of this archive was made possible by a generous donation from the Aurelius Trust, 2007.
