The roll of obligation for Academicians was first signed at a meeting of General Assembly, the second of that day, on 14 December 1768. It was signed by the foundation and nominated members and thereafter by all full Academicians.
The signatories at the General Assembly of 14 December 1768 promised "each for himself, to observe all the Laws and Regulations contained in the said Instrument [the Instrument of Foundation], as also, all other Laws, Bye-Laws, or Regulations, either made, or hereafter to be made, for the better government of the above mentioned Society, promising furthermore on every occasion, to employ our utmost Endeavours, to promote the Honor and Interest of the Establishment, so long as we shall continue Members thereof".
The name of
James Barry is struck out [following his expulsion by the General Assembly of 15 April 1799] and the deletion authorised by the signature of
King George III.
