Appealing for the reinstatement of Alfred Gilbert as a member of the Royal Academy. Bell encloses letters from
Lord Stamfordham and
Herbert Olivier [RAA/SEC/26/15-16] on the subject. As a recent member of the Royal Academy, Bell was unacquainted with the exact events that had led to Gilbert's resignation, but he remembered Gilbert as being very good to him as a student and young artist. Gilbert was an aging man, who had surely paid for his errors by years of suffering as a result of his genius as an artist.
