Content Description

Records in February his wish to elect Leighton to "The Club", Mr. Lowe suggests Watts; in March is pasted a letter from W. Beattie along with lines written on Richmond's portrait of Sir Thomas Watson; an Academy death notice for Richard Westmacott is pasted into April; in May he has inserted part of the Times review of the summer exhibition in which his technique is criticised; in June is pasted a memoriam to Eliza Peech; a letter of 13 October from Benjamin Harrison informs of the death of Lady Inglis; in October is pasted an Academy death notice for George Heming Mason; letter of 1st November from Marianne Thornton regarding the death of Lady Inglis and her inheritance of Milton Bryant, pasted into November, also in November is pasted a death notice for Richard Lane, lastly in November is pasted a letter from A. Merritt along with his instructions

on the removal of valuable pictures.; in December is pasted a typescript letter from Samuel Palmer, also to be found in the dairy for 1869, next to it is a small newspaper cutting on the death of Mr. Catterton Smith, also in December he records the Queen's command that he should paint the Princess of Wales; in the place for memoranda he has left a sketch of a half-length, seated woman and a list of works completed; at the rear is a list of members of "The Club", correct to February.
