Content Description

Continues to make notes on his progress on the "Greek" pictures; in June he accepts a seat on the Council of the Arundel Society and is elected a Royal Academician; in September he records detailed notes on the restoration of the portrait of Richard II, also some newspaper cuttings relating to the portrait have been fixed to the diary; in December he records the death of his sister, also in December he notes that it is curious that his temporary diploma work is a piece that he painted when 21 years old; includes a letter from George Scharf of the National Portrait Gallery sending Richmond an article and Richmond's draft reply, regarding the portrait of Richard, praising Mr. Chance; at the end of the diary is a letter pasted in, relating to press coverage of the restoration, from J. Gullock.
