Content Description
Hooper notes that the location of
[George] Romney's picture of the 'Clavering Children' is not identified in the catalogue of engravings then on exhibit at Burlington House. Hooper knew the boy in the picture (Sir Thomas John Clavering) very well: he saw the work in question Clavering's house at Axwell Park some 35 years ago, and presumes that the work is still there. This fact could be easily ascertained.
