The Directors asked Dalton to reconsider his decision [minutes of Directors' meeting of 9 March 1768, SA/10]. Dalton refused, citing court appointments, in a letter of 10 March 1768 [SA/34/13].
Content Description
Resigning as both Director and Treasurer, and citing as the cause of his failure to attend, "the singularly strange conduct" of some of the members in recent meetings, particularly the last. He further describes those in question as "malicious dark Spirits. . .ever ready. . .to disturb the peace of the Society".
