Congratulating him on his election as an Associate of the Royal Academy. Cook says that the only opposition to Gibson's candidature had arisen from his non-residence in England. Cook himself had frequently contested that argument by asserting the advantages to be gained from the superior quality of sculpture that Gibson would be producing in Rome and sending to the RA exhibition.
