Historical Background
This report was never given. It became the central action of a long battle between the Council and the General Assembly over who, exactly, ran the Royal Academy. When the committee presented themselves to the Council, in order to deliver this report, the Council would not receive them. They then took their grievances to General Assembly, which censured Council resulting, ultimately, in the intervention of the
King.
Content Description
Analysing the finances of the Academy in a wider sense, in order to come to a reseasoned proposal for the augmentation of the salaries of the officers and servants of the Academy. The committee (formed of
Nollekens, Farington,
Northcote,
Smirke,
Lawrence,
Daniell and
Flaxman) propose significant reduction in expenses related to the arrangement of the exhibition and formal dining. With these retrenchments assumed they then propose a plan for a general increase in salaries.
