Content Description

Wyatt informs Gibson of the measures he had taken to protect the works in his studio before the French bombardment of Rome on 30 June 1849: Gibson's own studio had not been affected in the least. He describes a lucky escape he had when his studio was hit during the bombardment. He received minor injuries in several places and casts were destroyed and damaged. Wyatt goes on to describe the bombardment in general and mentions an attack by the French on the Janiculum. Garibaldi had then left the city.
