Content Description

For almost a year, while Pine has been contending for the honour and interest of the Society of Artists, he has been subjected to the illiberal reflections of ill judging and deluded men. He now resigns for a second time. His reason: the craft, dissumulation and violence of one man [James Paine], who has driven many valuable members from the Society in disgust. Pine has felt obliged to urge many members not to exhibit with the Society unless Paine is removed. He adds in a postscript that several other members, unwilling to bear any further indignities, have sent their work to the Royal Academy.
