, Printed circular letter describing the Royal Academy Club

At a Meeting of the ROYAL ACADEMY CLUB, held at the FREE
MASONS TAVERN, FRIDAY, MARCH 28th, 1800.

WHEREAS, this Society, at its Commencement, was instituted not only for the Purpose of
social Intercourse, but also to obtain the Advantages of professional Communication; and
what is of still more Importance, to cultivate and promote perpetual Harmony and good Under-
standing among the Members of the ROYAL ACADEMY.
AND WHEREAS, this Society has had the Honor to receive the high Sanction of HIS MAJESTY’S
Approbation.
AND WHEREAS, a very large Proportion of the Members of the ROYAL ACADEMY have annu-
ally become Members of this Society, and the Experience of several Years has fully evinced its
Utility; nevertheless, although its Advantages have been felt and acknowledged, it has chiefly owed
its Continuance to the Zeal of some of its active Members, a Circumstance that evidently renders
its Duration precarious.
WHEREFORE IT IS UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED, That this Society shall in future be ESTABLISHED
ON A PERMANENT FOOTING; and that the following RULES and ORDERS be adopted for the
Regulation of the Society.
FIRST, That this Society shall be composed of the ACADEMICIANS, ASSOCIATES, and MEMBERS of
the ROYAL ACADEMY, and none others.
SECONDLY, That the President of the ROYAL ACADEMY shall be Chairman of the Club; and in his
Absence, the Treasurer of Secretary shall take the Chair.
THIRDLY, There shall be a Treasurer and Secretary, who shall be chosen by the Society.
FOURTHLY, That the Expenses of the Club shall be jointly borne by the Members, who shall pay
their Annual Subscription as usual, to the Treasurer, ON OR BEFORE THE FIRST
MEETING OF THE CLUB IN EVERY YEAR.
FIFTHLY, That any Member wishing to withdraw his Name, shall give Notice in Writing of his
Intention, to the Secretary, ONE MONTH BEFORE THE FIRST ANNUAL
MEETING OF THE SOCIETY.
SIXTHLY, There shall be Ten Meetings of the Society every Year, the First Meeting to be held on
the First FRIDAY in NOVEMBER.
