Content Description

Copy of minutes of trustees of the British Museum approving an application by the RA to have a set of casts made from the moulds of the Phigalian marbles, provided the RA pay the expense of taking them off by Mr Westmacott, 14 December 1816; Secretary's note of extract from General Assembly minutes authorising the presentation to the British Museum of architectural casts purchased from the executor of Sir Thomas Lawrence, 18 July 1831; Letter from the Secretary of the British Museum, communicating the acceptance of the RA's offer to present the Lawrence casts, 15 September 1831; letter from the Secretary of the British Museum asking whether the RA would permit the return of the Lawrence casts (displayed in the building at the British Museum which had previously held the Phigaleian marbles): they had had to be taken down, and there was now no other room in which they could be displayed, 13 February 1844; letter from A. Panizzi, British Museum, to Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, copying correspondence on a routine matter between himself and the RA's Registrar, Henry Eyre, and complaining about Eyre's tone in the letters, 7 April 1865, with note that no notice of the communication was taken by the President and Council.
