He has been forced to give his last four guineas away to friends and is left without a shilling, he begs she send him a draft for 5 guineas; he is disprited about his failure with the portrait of the Duke of York and is determined not to see Mr. Reynolds again until he has a picture worthy of himself; he plans to draw on what his Bath friends owe him, asks her to send his colours and the "head of the laughing boy".
