Content Description

The first five items are in fact sketches, plans and notes relating to a new building for the Royal Academy. They include a list of works by artists from the "line" of the 1831 summer exhibition, with dimensions, in order to estimate how the new building might serve as a display venue. The building itself is currently unidentified, but the hand is that of A.W. Callcott.

Also a letter, from James Bandinel, Foreign Office, to A.W. Callcott relating to the acquisition of works by Velázquez and Murillo.

Notes including plans and sketches of collections of paintings at Petworth, Luton Hoo, Mrs Cosvelt at 16 Upper Brook Street, the collection of Holwell Carr, Mr. Baring.

Lastly two drafts of a paragraph on proposed reform of an art school, a note in Italian relating to painting and a list of "works in hand for Spain", with notations stating which prints are complete and which are drawn "on the wood".
