Hone had been informed by
Mr Plott that an assertion had been made at a meeting of the Society of Artists that he had applied to be admitted as a member of the Royal Academy in Pall Mall. Hone denies that Plott ever made any such application, and states that the author or authors of the allegation were guilty of "a most atrocious falsehood".
