He discussed Spielmann's circular with
Hugh Carter, who agreed and would sign the document. They feel the amendment should be restricted to "outsiders", leaving the Academicians to vote to restrict their own submissions. The Academy is very jealous of any outside interference in its government. Dismisses the unstated objections of
Sydney and Herbert Cooper, the former senile, the latter bumptious. On the plus side
Davis supports them, as does
Pettie and
MacWhirter.
