Content Description

Kirby will see from the enclosed [the formal letter of resignation to Kirby as President, SA36/48/1] that they have resigned their directorships. They are sorry to quit a President for whom they have the highest regard, as likewise several of the Directors, "who tho: elected by the Cabal; had no share in their intrigues, but the ungenerous treatment which we and the rest of our friends have met with from the Caballers and their obstinacy in still continuing to insult us, by proposals which they know to be diametrically opposite to our sentiments (because we consider them repugnant to the interest of the Society), render it impossible for us to continue in Office with any degree of decency." They regret that the actions of "the same turbulent spirits" have made it impossible to achieve the harmony that Kirby and all the friends of the Society wished for.
